Guresky Mental Health and Family Counseling Specialists, Inc. is a family-owned business founded by brothers Brandon and Kent Guresky. Their goal in creating a clinic is to tackle the ongoing issues within the mental health field and create an accessible and inclusive space for clients.

Guresky MHFC aims to make sure that everyone who is looking for mental health services can get it, regardless of age, gender, culture, severity of issues, socio-economic status, etc.

OUR MANAGEMENT

  • Chief of Clinical Operations

    For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to help people. With my humanistic, client-centered approach to therapy, I feel uniquely positioned to get to know you--the real you--and to give you my all while helping you through life’s many challenges. I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, MFT #53766, and a Los Angeles native.

    Throughout my career, I have provided mental health services to a broad range of populations. I have worked with individuals, children, families, and some of the most underserved in our city, like those on AFDC government assistance, victims of domestic violence, as well as those in homeless programs.

    I began practicing as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in 2005 and have been a licensed MFT since 2013. After years of working for various mental health agencies, I started my own private practice in 2020 with the hopes of reaching a broader base of clients without the stipulations and red-tape of other providers. I quickly began experiencing tremendous growth as the COVID-19 outbreak spread and more people began experiencing mental health issues from the pandemic. As an individual provider, I was unable to assist the number of people seeking services.

    Along with my brother Kent, I decided to create a group practice, Guresky Mental Health and Family Counseling Specialists, in order to better accommodate increasing demand, especially from those who are unable to find therapy through other means.

  • Chief of Fiscal Operations

    Growing up, my brother and I were blessed to have parents that instilled in us the importance of hard work, faith, and family. These values were tested when our father passed while Brandon and I were still young boys. We saw the sacrifices our mother made to ensure our lives changed as little as possible. We rallied around each other, and through these values, we were able to get through the most difficult time in our lives. Brandon has always looked out for me, protected me, and included me. The same qualities that make Brandon the perfect big brother are the same qualities that make him the excellent therapist he is today. 

    My brother and I are almost complete opposites, but while our different professional experiences, backgrounds, and interests strengthen our team, our commonalities assure a united vision for Guresky Mental Health & Family Counseling Specialists, Inc. My logical, analytical, and objective personality (paired with an aptitude for numbers) has served me well in my 15+ year career in production accounting for the entertainment industry. I use my knowledge and experience of payroll and budgets to help create the financial viability and longevity needed so that Guresky MHFC will be around when you need us.  

    The opportunity to work with my brother is incredible. I have the utmost confidence in his talents and vision, and I am excited to team up with him to reach people in need.

    Since receiving my Master’s in Science degree from CSUN in 1989, I am proud to say that I have been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 1993 and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Since 2012.  I have also become a Certified Clinical Supervisor with
    CAMFT since 2001. I am also Certified in Domestic Violence and Gambling addiction and have been working with victims of violence for over 20 years.

    I have been the CalWORKs Program Manager at San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc. for over 20 years. Working with Adults on welfare dealing with Mental Health, Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse issues has been incredibly exciting and challenging over the years.  But it’s lead me to my latest
    chapter in my career of providing clinical supervision to the next generation of therapists.

    I’ve worked with children, teens and adults in private practice, within DCFS and in Community Mental Health programs.

    In addition to my clinical and supervisory work, I also serve as the Program Director at Guresky Mental Health & Family Counseling Specialists. In this role, I provide overall clinical leadership and guidance to the practice, support and oversee supervisors and clinicians, and leads initiatives focused on clinical quality, training, and program development. I collaborate closely with leadership to ensure services are delivered with consistency, integrity, and adherence to best practices, while supporting the continued growth and development of the clinical team.

  • With a Master's Degree in Marriage Family Therapy and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, I have practiced psychotherapy since 1997.

    I have worked extensively in the areas of trauma and addiction.  My focus is to provide the patients with a safe and supportive environment so that they have the freedom to address painful moments and issues of self-worth.

    Along with working in private practice, I have worked in intensive outpatient programs, locked psychiatric facilities, residential dual diagnosis treatment facilities and taught at Loyola Marymount University Los Angeles.

  • I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker experienced in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and relational issues, among other concerns. In addition, I work  extensively with survivors of Interpersonal Violence, also known as Domestic Violence. I have built my practice as a compassionate, empathetic professional who believes that everyone deserves to have a fulfilling life.

    I am proud to say that I am a first generation graduate, acquiring my Master’s degree in Social Work from CSUN in 2014.

    I am fluent in English and Spanish. Born and raised in Guatemala, Central America, migrated during childhood, I am fully aware of the added struggles drastic changes may bring to one’s life.

  • I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist since 2002, and have worked in both small and large community mental health clinics. For the past 23 years I have been with the San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, and have been manager and clinical supervisor for the Transitional Age Youth (TAY) program for adolescents and young adults. During my time with this agency, I have worked in a Day Treatment Intensive, I’ve also overseen the running of two 6 bed residential facilities for TAY youth, and managed a large outpatient clinic. I also currently supervise practicum level students from several universities, who provide counseling in schools (ranging from kindergarten-12th grade) located throughout Los Angeles County.

    During my career in mental health, I have treated a broad range of clients of different cultures and ethnicities, and I have worked with couples, children, teens, families and adults. I have extensive experience working with adolescents and young adults, the LGBTQ+ population, along with clients who present with symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis, trauma, and personality disorders. I have years of experience utilizing the CBT model of treatment and am certified in the evidence-based practice of Seeking Safety, which is a model for trauma and co-occurring disorders.

  • I have a Master Degree in Clinical Psychology and am a licensed Marriage Family Therapist.  I am the Assistant Director of Older Adult Services for San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc. where I have worked for over twenty nine years. My duties include responsibility for coordinating training and Continuing Education Units (CEU) for the Center, training and supervising Psychology students, and Master’s level marriage family therapy students, program development, and crisis management.  I serve on several community based committees regarding older adult issues including participating as a member of the organizing committee for an older adult mental health conference “Promising Practices” and the Department of Mental Health’s Older Adult System of Care. I co-chairs the Greater Los Angeles Marriage Family Therapy Consortium and participates on the statewide MFT leadership collaborative.

    Hello, my name is Carlos Batres and am currently attempting to complete my LPCC licensure. I have obtained a B.A. and M.A. degree in sociology from California State University Dominguez Hills and more recently obtained a M.S. degree in counseling from California State University, Northridge.

    My professional road to this current decision to go into the mental health field started with my role as an educator in higher education teaching sociology at the high school, community college and university level, which I have been doing for the past ten plus years. It was my individual interactions and most of all the mentor-mentee relationships that I have established with my students that have been the motivation to transition into the desire to become a therapist.

    It was these relationships that have formed the foundation to want to make a difference in the lives of others. I am a true believer that a key element of any relationship that involves helping is the quality of the professional relationship that is created between the helper and the person receiving the help.

    In addition, I intend to create a place where clients feel respected and not judged and most of all that they feel they are in a safe place to share anything that they want to share about who they are.

    I completed both my bachelor’s in psychology and my master’s in clinical counseling at the University of Phoenix. I have worked within the mental health field for the past 12 years. While I have worked with several populations in different capacities, I have extensive experience with children and adolescents.

    My goal is to provide a safe supporting space that will promote exploration, knowledge, growth, and healing. While my therapy approach is a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, humanistic and person centered, I believe that it is most important to meet each individual where they are. It is my desire that you experience an environment that is not only therapeutic but provides you with tools that you can continue to draw upon for years to come.

    I’m Ethan. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I graduated from Pepperdine University in the fall of 2022 with a master’s degree in clinical psychology. During my free time I enjoy playing video games, going to live concerts, driving cars, taking pictures, traveling, eating new types of food, and building Legos.

    I grew up in the San Fernando Valley for most of my life. I had the privilege of growing up in the valley which helped me form connections with different ethnicities and helped me experience diverse communities. This was such a blessing as it prepared me for working with different individuals in this field.

    My passion for Psychology started in 2013 when I took my Intro-Psychology class. With this class, I became curious about how people behaved and how their thought processes were made. Additionally, I dove deeper into my passion for Psychology as I started to look inward and considered my own experiences with my friends and family. This helped me realize the importance of how our experiences in our childhood and with our own families impact our behaviors.

    As a therapist, I take a client centered and solution focused approach with clients. In addition, I employ a range of therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. My goal is to provide a safe space for clients and empower them to explore their feelings regarding their past/present/future, thought patterns, behaviors, relationships, and self-esteem.     People have always described me as empathetic, nonjudgmental, and welcoming. With an MA in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles, I combine these qualities with evidence-based approaches to support my clients.
    I have had the fortune of working with a wide variety of clients with diverse needs, preparing me to be an adaptive, eclectic associate therapist at Guresky Mental Health and Family Counseling. More specifically, I use a humanistic, client-centered approach, and I tend to be fairly psychodynamic in my counseling. This means I help clients become aware of unconscious influences in their lives so they can better understand their emotions and behaviors and make lasting, positive changes. This type of therapy isn’t what everyone is looking for, so I also draw from cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, narrative therapy, and somatic therapy depending on the client. I’m also trained in EMDR–one of the most effective evidence-based treatments for trauma and other mental health diagnoses. Overall, I consider myself a life-long learner with an ever-growing skillset.
    Before becoming a counselor, I earned an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, which blends linguistics, teaching, and intercultural competency. This background helps me work effectively with immigrants, first-generation Americans, multicultural families, and clients navigating cross-cultural relationships. I always practice cultural humility by remembering there is not one “right” cultural context within which we should understand ourselves, others, and the world. While I am only able to conduct sessions in English, I’ve found a multitude of ways to honor clients’ first languages within sessions, and I take pride in being a patient communicator.
    I also specialize in supporting individuals and families affected by adoption and other experiences of disrupted attachment. I find it incredibly rewarding helping clients understand any barriers keeping them from having satisfying, healthy connections with others.

    Hello, my name is pronounced “Billoy”. I enjoy helping people discover and create solutions to their problems. I believe each person is the expert on their situation.     Coming from an Arts background, with a BFA in Acting, I became interested in the link between Arts and Healing and began studying the benefits of Social Emotional Arts on mental health with UCLA’s Arts & Healing Initiative. I have spent 12 years employing Social Emotional Arts-based techniques in school communities, helping to build resilience and empathy, harness hope, practice stress awareness/stress regulation, plus teach conflict management to students and trauma-informed approaches to teachers/administrators. With the increase of homelessness and mental health challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, my desire to develop more tools to help people in need (and to help better the world) led me to pursue a Masters Degree in Social Work at UMass Global, where I graduated in 2023.

    Hi my name is Liana Moini. I have a bachelors in Psychology with an emphasis in biology from UC Davis and received my masters in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage & Family therapy  from Pepperdine University in 2023. I am currently working on obtaining licensure.

    My interest in the field of psychology grew throughout my educational career and the different volunteer/work opportunities I have had. Through each opportunity I recognized the importance of mental health and creating a safe environment in which individuals can express themselves.

    My focus as a therapist is to collaboratively work with clients in meeting their goals and develop a trusting environment in which they feel safe to share and address different aspects of their life. I work from a client-centered approach, as I believe the individual is the expert on their life, and utilize different evidence-based techniques such a as CBT, DBT, and Psychodynamic, to guide the therapeutic process.     Hello! I’m Tiffany. I was born in New York but raised in Monterey County, CA. I have lived in many diverse areas which allowed me to develop a deep appreciation for cultures. I have extensive experience working with diverse communities (neurodivergent, survivors of Human Trafficking, survivors of IPV, LGBTQ+, BIPOC, marginalized) and helping them advocate for themselves to reduce barriers to their goals. My background has deepened my appreciation of intersectionality and the importance it plays in understanding clients. I have experience in treating clients of all ages with various mental health issues that include depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and complex PTSD.

    My passion for counseling stems from my passion for advocacy and was ignited by experiences with family and friends. I value the relationships I build with my clients and work to create a safe environment through open communication, education, collaboration, and constructive feedback.     I'm Makita Roundtree. I've worked for 13 years in vocational counseling across various settings, with much of my practice in government, and I've transitioned to clinical counseling.

    I was a military spouse and am a veteran. These two roles have shaped my views. A positive relationship is the foundation of counseling. I use a Person-Centered, Humanistic-Existential, Multiculturally Competent therapeutic approach, which means that all people matter and their voices should be heard.

    I earned my master's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from Georgia State University. I'm a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (#00112369). My passion for counseling led me to pursue a doctorate in Counseling Education and Supervision at Adams State University in Colorado.

  • Associate Therapist

    Hello, I'm Marina Vega, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, dedicated to providing compassionate care to individuals, couples, families, and children. A native Angeleno, born and raised in one of Los Angeles' southeastern "gateway cities," I moved back to the US in 2023 after over a decade abroad in the UK. Upon my return, I obtained my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology, with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy, from Mount Saint Mary's University, Los Angeles. I completed my practicum with Counseling Partners of Los Angeles (CPLA), staying on as a volunteer for an additional 5 months to work with the children and their families, as I did not feel the therapeutic work was complete. 

    My therapist journey began in 2020, when I started training as a person-centered therapist in the UK after working as an educator in the field of special education for 15 years. Working in education and as a qualified yoga teacher - another path I wondered and wandered along in the journey of life - I enjoyed the 1:1 work utilizing a holistic framework incorporating the whole being. I work from a trauma-informed, person-centered lens, incorporating CBT and mindfulness-based techniques. I have experience supporting clients who have endured significant trauma and PTSD, children of veterans, as well as members of the neurodivergent community. I am 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming and strive to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive space for all my clients.
